Xiaomi Exceeds 500,000 Units Delivered as its EV Sales Climb

Xiaomi has delivered over half a million units of the SU7 electric sedan, a significant milestone for a company that has been producing cars for a little over two years.

When Xiaomi first announced its intent to develop battery electric cars, it was known for its massive smart manufacturing and consumer electronics business. Apple was the only other consumer electronics firm that tried to produce electric cars but failed to deliver a single unit after a decade of R&D and $10 billion in investment.

However, Xiaomi hit the ground running and delivered its first SU7 unit barely a month after announcing its expansion into battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) in March 2024. The company’s cumulative SU7 deliveries now stand at over 500,000, with customers purchasing over 100,000 units in the first half of 2026.

While Apple tried to do everything in-house, including building unique EV infrastructure from the ground up, Xiaomi tapped into China’s well-established battery and EV supply chain, leaving the hardware production to experienced players while it focused on the software.

This allowed the Beijing-based company to scale up EV production at a hitherto unprecedented pace, hitting 500,000 units in a little over two years. In comparison, it took Tesla a decade for its cumulative sales to reach half a million units.

Xiaomi showed that BYD isn’t the only major Chinese player to watch, and with an expanded vehicle line-up that includes the YU7 electric SUV and the high-performance sports sedan SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi is dead set on making its mark in the electric vehicle industry.

Xiaomi achieved what Apple, one of the largest tech companies in the world, and several other established automakers couldn’t: it built a production pipeline capable of delivering hundreds of thousands of vehicles in just three years.

The firm took advantage of its established software enterprise, massive consumer base, and technology ecosystem, alongside China’s established EV supply pipeline, to significantly accelerate the production and rollout of its battery-electric vehicles.

The SU7 is now one of the best-selling premium electric sedans in the Chinese EV market. Xiaomi’s electric vehicle wing contributed to a 17.1% increase in revenue from Q2 2025 to Q2 2026, indicating that electric cars are rapidly becoming a substantial branch of the company’s business.

However, with competition in China’s electric vehicle industry heating up, Xiaomi faces intense price wars and brutal competition from dozens of automakers. For North American EV makers like Rivian Automotive Inc. (NASDAQ: RIVN), the global competition just got more intense, and there will be lots of work to do to increase sales.
