Honda Unveils Concept Cars in New EV Line

Japanese automaker Honda recently unveiled concepts for two new electric vehicles at Las Vegas’ Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The debut of the two new concept EVs served as an early preview of Honda’s upcoming line of EVs.

This line of EVs will begin with the Honda 0 Series, which is slated to begin production in 2026 and launch in North America before hitting international markets. Honda presented the new concept models, Space-Hub and Saloon, as well as a new Honda logo that will feature prominently on vehicles in the upcoming Honda 0 Series.

Honda says that it is developing the new series with several core values in mind. This includes artistic design to induce resonance, power and performance efficiency, and a driver-assist system that “ensures safety and peace of mind.” Both the Saloon and Space Hub concepts feature sleek, futuristic designs with Honda’s new logo.

The hatchback-like Saloon concept will be the first Series 0 Honda model to launch in North America in 2026. The Space-Hub concept, on the other hand, has a van-like body that grants it a spacious interior, Honda says. While concept images revealed interior bench seats that went around the sides and back of the vehicle, Honda did not confirm whether the versions that go on sale sometime in 2026 will feature this design.

The logo will be exclusive to Honda EVs and was created as part of its transition to electric cars. Last year, the Japanese automaker announced that it was investing $40 billion into the development and launch of 30 new EV models globally by the end of the decade. The EV lineup will include a minicar and two SUVs.

Like most other legacy automakers, Honda also plans to electrify its line-up, eliminating combustion fossil fuel-powered cars. However, while automakers such as Ford and General Motors have already launched EV models in the U.S. market, Honda is one of the few automakers that doesn’t offer battery electric cars to the entire U.S. market.

Additionally, Honda is far behind other automakers in terms of sales and currently only targets specific markets such as California, which severely limits its market reach. Honda’s $40 billion investment will support EV development over the next decade and will cover research and development as well as software.

The automaker plans on ramping up electric vehicle production to more than two million units per year. Honda has also spent $343 million developing a proprietary line of solid-state batteries.

Honda has made its statement of intent, and other automakers such as Fisker Inc. (NYSE: FSR) can use the advantage they have of already having EVs on the market to deepen their market penetration so that Honda and other legacy automakers can play catch up.
