Study Shows Switching to EVs Could Slash Childhood Asthma Prevalence
A recent University of Toronto study has found that replacing gas-powered vehicles with zero-emission electric vehicles (EVs) could significantly reduce the number of childhood asthma cases. The researchers concluded that replacing just 50% of all petrol and diesel cars with EVs could meaningfully cut asthma rates attributed to vehicle exhaust. Gas-powered cars, which burn fossil fuels, are a major source of both greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. Exhaust fumes from these vehicles are linked to nearly one-third of all new childhood asthma cases each year.
