Lucid Motors’ slogan captures much of what this innovative car company is all about. Focused on delivering the next generation of electric cars, Lucid is dedicated to manufacturing vehicles that allow drivers to choose to do both great things and the right thing.
Sustainable Mobility without Compromise
Based in California, where abundant nature and high technology meet, Lucid embraces all that one of the nation’s most progressive states has to offer. At the core of Lucid’s philosophy is the company’s commitment to creating sustainable mobility without compromise. Lucid’s vehicles are intuitive, liberating and designed for all the ways people get around. At the same time, each carefully crafted car makes the best possible use of the world’s resources.
With an eye on sustainable standards and the potential for recyclability, Lucid designers set out to make every Lucid car using materials obtained from the most conscientious suppliers. The company works closely with its partners to ensure interior materials are both luxurious and environmentally responsible.
For example, while Bridge of Weir is renowned for its high-quality leather, Lucid also chose this Scottish supplier because it touts the lowest carbon footprint of any leather-maker in the world. Bridge of Weir has achieved this distinction – along with numerous environmental awards – by making substantial investments in the circular manufacturing of leather, including a thermal energy plant that converts process waste into energy and an ultrafiltration plant that recycles 40% of the water used in leather production.
Other examples of Lucid’s commitment to the environment include sustainably harvested wood options such as eucalyptus, walnut and red oak. Textile options include an alpaca wool blend that requires minimal dye and recycled yarn processed with an advanced air-texturing process.
A First-of-Its-Kind Factory
It’s not all about the materials. The Lucid automaking factory is the first purpose-built electric vehicle facility in North America, and it’s designed expressly for building Lucid vehicles. After looking at more than 60 sites in 13 states, company officials selected a 500-acre property in Casa Grande, Arizona, for the Lucid Motors factory.
Located between Phoenix and Tucson – and within easy reach of Lucid’s Silicon Valley headquarters – Casa Grande offers close proximity to essential utilities, a reliable transportation system and strong support from state and local governments.
Company officials expect the first phase of construction will be completed within 12 months of breaking ground. Designed to exact specifications and outfitted with the world’s most advanced production-line equipment, the factory will be able to produce 10,000 cars a year. After planned expansion phases are completed, that number is expected to top 300,000 vehicles annually.
Lucid places an exceptionally high priority on efficiency. Lucid’s unwavering commitment to making the best use of its resources drives every decision the company makes.
Whether the company is building powertrains or manufacturing vehicles, each step of the process is carefully analyzed for optimum efficiency. With an understanding that every extra mile the company can extract from a kWh of energy helps reduce the human footprint on the planet, Lucid pays meticulous attention to the total emissions of its vehicles throughout their lifecycles.
The Lucid Air
That commitment, coupled with Lucid’s philosophy of being a forward-thinking company that sets new standards, is distinctly visible in the company’s first EV offering: the Lucid Air. With the tagline ‘California doesn’t compromise, neither does Lucid Air’, this new EV vehicle achieves benchmark-setting range without compromising any of the high performance that makes it an extraordinary driver’s car.
Slated for production in early 2021, the Lucid Air offers the highest-range efficiency per mile of any EV on the market. In addition, the Lucid Air has an estimated EPA range of up to 517 miles, an achievement made possible through the company’s advanced electric vehicle technology, a fastidious focus on whole-vehicle efficiency, a race-proven battery pack and the world’s most aerodynamic luxury car design.
